Indonesia. The fourth most populous nation in the world
yet so unknown to the outside world. It‘s the steaming
tropics, the land of the wayang, home to some of the
worst traffic jams on Planet Earth, non-existent sanitation,
poisonous water, helter-skelter emerging-market economics,
confused government, a corrupted culture with a generous
layer of the holier-than-thou nouveau riche, and the rest. It‘s
tempting to refer to them as the downtrodden poor, but that‘s
not really the case after some seventy years of independence.
There‘s always something happening in this nation of more
than 260 million souls
